Looks like that hiatus is finally over!!! Tvontheradio have announced their follow up to the critically acclaimed Dear Science with Nine Types of Light, which is due for release in Spring 2011. Details from the press release are as follows:
...Springtime! The flowers bloom, the birds sing, and TV On The Radio will drop a new album, Nine Types of Light, for all you lovers. Get your emotions strong; word is this album’s packing some heartstring heat. Hell, if the band’s last album, Dear Science, took us to a celebration on the edge of the abyss, where in good god will they take us now? One of the first places TV On The Radio take us will be the great stage of Radio City Music Hall on April 13, 2011. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 18, at 11:00 am. The TV On The Radio on the Radio City concert will kick off a national tour, and the band plans on bringing some double thunder. Described as boldly catchy 21st-century noise-rock doo-wop soul – and more! – and both fans and critics adore them. Dear Science was voted #1 in both the Pitchfork Media’s 2008 Reader’s Poll and the Village Voice’s Pazz and Jop poll (comprised of more than 800 critics). And since we are name-dropping accolades, Dear Science was also named best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Spin Magazine, The New York Times, MTV, Entertainment Weekly and more. An embarrassment of riches, really: How can TV on the Radio be “the most innovative band on the planet” (The Onion) and also “the most vital band in America” (Associated Press)? Seemingly impossible, TV On The Radio always top themselves. The road to this new Spring-released album first came through the 2002 self-released OK Calculator, then the Young Liars EP, followed by their first full-length debut, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (which earned the band the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize). Later that year TV on the Radio released a second EP, New Health Rock. 2006 brought the band’s second studio album, Return to Cookie Mountain, and then the 3rd studio album, Dear Science, was released September 23, 2008. And here we are today, with more details to be announced shortly. Yes, life’s not fair, but you do have to wait. Just for a little bit, and then all hell breaks loose, promise: titles, track-listings, tour dates, and, best of all, music-listenings and advance CD’s! Stay tuned.
It looks like the album is being described as one for the romantics, and it will be interesting to see what comes of it! After all, all hell is breaking loose... You can also sign up the mailing list for the album here: http://www.tvontheradio.com/splash/

Tunde and the boys are planning on going on hiatus to take a break from touring for a while. It's been a hectic year for TV on the Radio, and a break from the road (and each other) looks to be on the cards. MTV caught Tunde backstage at the Outside Lands Fesitval, and he had the following to say: "We've been on tour for almost a year now, and towards the end of the year, you do end up getting things out during the show, subliminally, that you can't get out with someone on a bus. Because you can say something to someone on the bus, and then after you've let it out, you realize you've got six hours sitting across from that person. Like, 'Remember when I called you a d--- a while ago? That was just, uh, caffeine and all sorts of sleep depravation talking, and I really didn't mean it, and I hope you don't take it to heart, even though I can tell that you are because you're not talking to me.' It's basic cabin fever." The full article can be found here. It's very saddening, but at the very least we have Rain Machine (and a tour) to keep us topped up with TV on the Radio goodness for the time being! Come over to the forum here to discuss :)
